Making Apple Butter is a Snap!

I'm very grateful today for friends and family. Yesterday we went to a friend's house down the street and helped them make apple butter for a while. Here are some photos I thought you'd enjoy.

First you peel the apples.

And peel.

And peel some more.
(That's my husband, Drew, by the way.)

Until they look like this.

Then you dump 'em in here.

Then you stir.
(That's my son Peter stirring.)

And stir.

And stir some more.

Then you double-stir.

And double-stir some more.

You look cute for the picture,
And you're done!
Now isn't that easy?

It actually requires A LOT more than this, as I'm sure you know. We're thankful for Twila's father who got up at 3am (yes, you read that right!) to stoke the fire and get started, for Dale and Twila's hard work in getting everything ready, and all the food Twila and her daughters prepared. We were invited to a big breakfast at 6am, but didn't quite make it...

Unfortunately, we had to leave before the canning was started, due to a sudden death in our extended family.

I won' t be posting this coming week, but will return the week of December 6th. I will miss all of you out there, and look forward to catching up when I return.

God bless your week, my friends!

I'm joining Brenda for the Gratitude Challenge today. (I haven't been faithful in posting every day for the Challenge. Thank you for letting me participate this last time before it's done!)

I just learned she's hosting another meme for the month of December, called Holiday Bliss! Yay Brenda! I'll put the link up when I return. The button will look like this:

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

I'm sorry for your loss. May God bless and comfort your family at this time.

I love apple butter. I had no idea how much work went into it. The community effort looks fun, and I'll appreciate my next jar of apple butter even more!

Yum, on the apple butter. I've never had the pleasure of tasting real apple butter. Maybe one day :)

Bless your heart, dear~ Sorry to hear of your loss.

Glad you all had some fun before your sadness~

It really looked fun making that apple butter~but got a question~what kind of pot was that?

When I made it~I put it through a sieve/strainer...did you all do that? Really tedious...didn't make any this year~all apple sauce and froze it...HINTS pls! LOL

Sending a BIG HUG and will miss you too, but look forward to reconnecting when you return. HUGS!

I believe the pot was something Twila's father put together -- I'll have to ask. The bottom half is like a cookstove-thing, where the fire goes. Then the top is just a big vat. I'm pretty sure it's all homemade. As for a sieve, I think the apples are just dumped in after chopping, and there's also apple cider in the pot before putting apples in. Sorry I can't answer your questions better -- I basically just showed up and did what they told me! Hugs to you too...

P.S. - I believe the secret is to cook, cook, cook and stir, stir, stir -- about 12 hours worth!

Such great pictures! We make apple butter every year here at my house, only in the oven instead of outside. But, I have helped make it outside at church a few times :) Hope you are having a great day! ~Karen

Oh, I love homemade apple butter! I love the outdoor fire and copper kettle. What you left out were photos of...no doubt...those boys chopping all the wood for that fire, LOL!

Thank you, Jimi Ann, so much for your kind and encouraging comments regarding my daddy's upcoming knee replacement surgery. That meant a lot to me, and blessed me very much. He is in the hands of the Greatest Physician, and I am content with that. I long for him to come through this operation smoothly and recover and have relief of the pain he has been dealing with for so long now. If they can take away that pain, he'll just have the pain in his spine; still not perfect, but he says the knee pain is worse a lot of the time, so I figure it would be at least 50% better, and that would be welcome relief!

I'll post an update on how it went tomorrow evening; the surgery is about 1:30 or 2pm.

I am sorry for your family's loss, and pray that those affected are finding peace in the love of the Father.

Thank you again, I really appreciate that you took the time to visit and leave a comment! :-)

{{{HUGS}}} and blessings,
Lori at Plans4You
PS: You have a lovely family!
