Egg Nog
My 14 year old son, Peter, found a simple recipe lastnight and made some for us all! This is the easiest eggnog recipe I've seen:
Put 4 eggs in blender and blend until foamy. Gradually add 1 qt. milk, 1 tsp. vanilla, and 1/4 cup sugar.
That's it!
It wasn't as thick and creamy as other recipes, though, but was still delicious.
Here's a more complicated, but thicker and creamier recipe:
Cooked Eggnog
Lightly cooking this eggnog kills any possibly dangerous bacteria in the eggs. Combine and set aside:
1 cup milk
1 cup heavy cream
Whisk just until blended:
12 large egg yolks
1 1/3 cups sugar
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
Whisk in:
2 cups milk
2 cups heavy cream
Transfer mixture to a large, heavy saucepan and place over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture becomes a little thicker than heavy cream. Do not overheat, or mixture will curdle. Remove from heat and immediately stir in the reserved milk and cream. Pour through a strainer into a storage container. Chill thoroughly, uncovered, then stir in:
2 tablespoons vanilla
Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or up to 3 days. Don't forget to sprinkle with nutmeg before serving!
I take my eggnog very warm. Not hot like coffee, but not cold like a milkshake. Mmmmm..... NOW it's Christmas!

I love eggnog, it's so decadent! Unfortunately, my boys are severely allergic to eggs, so I don't even bring it into the house - BUT! I do have some Ghiardelli eggnog candy and I never turn down a cup when we're out!
I have NEVER had egg nog (at least that I can remember..). I may have to try this recipe next week with my family!! Yummy! ... or, better yet, maybe I'll knock on your door and share some with you. Someday I would love to face to face meet you!

I have never made eggnog. I'll have to try your recipes, my husband loves it.
I like the magnot added (what George calls "nutmeg"). It actually tasted great until someone told me there were raw eggs in it. :) Thanks for the hard work Peter!
Wow, I never thought to make egg nog...always just bought it during the holidays. Thanks for sharing :)
Sounds good to me~thanks for sharing!
I LOVE egg nog. Thank you for sharing your recipes. I am going to try the cooked one REAL soon. *grin* Thank you for stopping by. I quickly stopped by your blog and didn't get to comment but I loved reading what I had a chance to. I can't wait to get to know you over time. I am just beginning to wear head coverings and your picture caught my attention. Praying blessings on you and your family.

I was wondering how much does this make ? I would love to know. *grin*
Thanks
Blessings,
-Mary
The uncooked version makes about four servings, and the cooked version makes about 18. Enjoy!!
Hi again *grin*,
Is that half cup servings? I was wondering how many cups do you think the cooked version makes. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. I am hoping to make it this coming week.

Weellll...I haven't made the cooked version this year. I'm thinking it was about 1/2 a cup each, maybe a little more. If unsure, I would go ahead and make more than you need -- it also tastes good after being chilled overnight, and keeps pretty well. Eggs for breakfast, right?! Sorry I'm not more help. Let me know if you like it! :)
